Members of The Club participate in a variety of community art projects:
We have painted murals in dementia wards in St. Michael’s Care Centre and Edith Cavell Centre. The purpose of the murals was not only to bring colour and life to the wards, but just as important, to camouflage the doors. Sadly, patients in dementia wards often experience a lot of anxiety around doors. A variety of murals from garden scenes, to prairie landscapes, and a scene of the Nikka Yuko Garden have been painted over elevator doors, pedestrian doors, double ward doors and in two cases were large, measuring 30 ft. across or more.
The recently completed mural at St. Therese was designed and painted by these volunteers: Sue Wilkie, Linda Sprinkle, Claire Reed, Carol Berner and Carla Schlachter. We chose a fish scene because it is bright and colourful, and the underwater world is also serene and quiet.
