Joe Veres grew up on a small farm a short drive outside Wimborne, a Central Alberta hamlet famous for it’s one stop sign. He learned to draw by using comic books as inspiration while going to Torrington Elementary, a slightly larger Central Alberta village known for it’s World Famous Gopher Hole Museum. After graduating from Trochu Valley High School, Joe Veres moved to Lethbridge because it wasn’t windy enough where he lived and to go to the University of Lethbridge. While at University Joe took several art classes. He also attended Lethbridge College where he met the love of his life and proposed a name change for her. She said yes and is now known as Jorica Veres.
Joe became a painter after Jorica and he visited a Matisse exhibition in San Antonio, Texas according to a memory that isn’t as good as it once was. Seeing the Matisse works in person was extremely inspiring and life changing.
Joe enjoys travelling with his amazing wife to take pictures to help remember where he’s been and then painting them when he gets home. If you would like to contact Joe Veres please email him at veresjoe@hotmail.com or phone him at 403-795-2092.
