Born and raised in island nation Sri Lanka, known as the “Pearl of the Indian ocean”, I was inspired by the nature around me. Diversity of plants, animals and landscapes, never failed to amaze me. Evergreen rain forests to deep blueocean, variety of environments were my childhood playgrounds. Distant memory of that joyful ocean, inspired me to recreate patterns so close to my heart.
Although I haven’t had any formal art education, I never missed a learning opportunity. Training workshops and constant practice of new techniques honed my skills. I am a member of the Lethbridge Artist Club since 2014 and was a board member from 2017 to 2018.
My educational background in biology, helped me to understand the patterns in nature. Free flowing acrylics allow me to recreate oceans patterns. It is impossible to create two identical pieces, because of the free-flowing nature of liquid paints. Same as the nature, that doesn’t create two identical creatures or sceneries.
As an artist, I want to share the beauty and diversity of patterns in nature. At the same time, I want to raise awareness on the value of protecting these precious resources. Whether it is thousands of miles away from us or at our doorstep, our actions affect nature. Only we can protect this beautiful earth.
